Unfortunately, I was about 10 when my church went ONA, but I have been told that there were a series of slightly-less-than-amicable discussions in church about it. Finally, I think, one of the older members of the church brought up a granddaughter who was "out," and their love for their granddaughter which was the crucial point in discussion.
I'm also pretty sure that many members of the church threatened to leave on both sides.
Now, I think I would have trouble theologically going to a church that wasn't ONA. The one I go to on occasion at college is ONA, too.
